Lyme Disease Hacks:

We researched over 20 years ways to overcome Lyme symptoms with an emphasis on things that can be done from home without travel to far away places and without the need for a specific device or machine.

For those who have tried everything, it's important to note that the order you do things matters. Experience tells us it's not one thing that makes the biggest difference but rather many changes in which the sum is greater than its parts.

One DOES NOT need a Lyme disease diagnosis to start feeling better. If you suspect Lyme these tips can help.

If you know someone suffering from Lyme, PLEASE share this website with them.

  • Before we start, visualize what you will do when feeling better. Attend your child's wedding or graduation? Is it travel? So many things that maybe you thought were impossible. Let's get to work!
  • First is to cut sugar and high fructose corn syrup out of the diet.
    • Adults cut alcohol drinks.
    • If this can't be done, expect the pain to remain.
    • Sodas and high sugar no fiber fruit juices such as orange, apple, grape are out too.
    • Raw honey, liquid stevia, maple syrup and dates can be consumed as a sweetener.
  • While going sugar free, start removing exposure to chemicals.
    • Drink reverse osmosis filtered water.
    • Remove fluoride toothpaste. Check with your dentist for alternatives.
    • Replace toxic skincare products. Soap, lotions, shampoo, etc...
    • Replace toxic laundry soap. We like Branch Basics.
    • Avoid foods with citric acid, artificial colors and other chemicals.
    • Avoid perfumes and toxic air fresheners.
    • Avoid swimming pools and hot tubs because the chlorine can be too much.
  • Get outside. Aim or 10-20 minutes a day.
  • If heat is tolerated, sunbathe midday in the least amount of clothing within reason. Start a 1 minute a day then work to 10 minutes a day.
  • After 2 weeks of no sugar, remove wheat, corn and dairy consumption.
    • This unholy trinity can cause big time inflammation.
    • If it's in the budget, labs can be run to see if these are an issue. We would bet that they are.
    • The above changes mean that restaurants are out too.
  • Quit following what sick people are doing and reach out to those who have had success overcoming Lyme.
  • The time it takes for positive change to be noticeable varies. Look for random revelations such as, "My headache is gone".
  • Supplements were rotated in and out. What to take depends on health history and current status.
  • Check with your doctor before making health changes. We will work with yours to reach better outcomes.
  • Results may vary.

Our path to better health came from lowering inflammation and building up the body so it could fight on its own. Killing Lyme and other tickborne infections was not the priority until much later in the process.

Follow our Facebook group - Our Child Had Lyme for encouragement and access to the latest that we see in our practice regarding Lyme disease and tickborne infections.

Many struggle with Lyme disease because they think it is the root cause of their suffering. We believe that active Lyme is a symptom of other dysfunction that needs to be addressed first.

More Lyme Disease Tips

If not feeling better after making the changes above:

  • Check sugar and high fructose corn syrup consumption. These absolutely need to be eliminated.
  • Gut health is key:
    • Make sure not to cheat on the diet and check the ingredients of all foods. Constant consuming foods our body reacts to will not help.
    • There could be other gut issues. Test for good bacteria balance, infections, parasites, candida, leaky gut and more.
    • In our experience, those who make no progress or relapse have gut issues that need to be addressed.
  • Another issue could be taking too many supplements or the wrong supplements which can make you feel worse without getting better.
  • Mold (environmental or from food) could be an issue which is common for those battling Lyme disease. Our LLMD told us we will never get better if mold is an issue. It needs to be addressed before Lyme.
  • Consider doing functional labs to reveal hidden stressors. No progress is a sign of other health issues going on that need to be addressed. Ignoring them won't make it better.
  • On our doctor road show back in the day, we were not afraid to switch practitioners when stuck.
    • If no progress was made after a year a change was made. At this point they seemed to be guessing rather than presenting a strategy.
    • Many practitioners we saw claimed to "treat" Lyme disease. However they had little success helping patients feel better.
    • Here are the signs we learned that practitioner was a bad fit for us:
      • Were dismissive when we shared health complaints.
      • All patients treated with the same protocol regardless of health history.
      • Outdated protocols that make you feel worse.
      • Directed us to take an enormous number of supplements. One doctor had us at 29 different supplements 3x/day. Good at emptying our bank account, bad because we felt worse.
    • Thankful for switching, otherwise we would still be stuck.
  • There will be ups and downs on everyone's journey but we do not believe increased suffering is a sign someone is getting better.

Note: All four of us in our family fought off Lyme (long story). However, we focus the message on our daughter who suffered the most with neuro issues and hospitalizations.

We have seen the pain you all go through and it breaks our hearts. While there is no cure, we believe there are things that can be done to feel much better.

OUR LYME DISEASE STORY

"Daddy, My headache is gone".

"What?" I said in disbelief. So many things rushing through my mind. All the pain, many years of a non-stop headache and neuro issues. On the floor with joint pain, unable to get up because fatigue was too much. Basically everything bad that comes from Lyme disease, co-infections and other dysfunction. No doctors could help. Even Stanford Medical, one of the best healthcare facilities on the west coast gave up, suggesting massage and ice packs were the only thing that could be done.

As a parent, the suffering was too much. Sleepless nights, hospital visits, no answers. Health issues starting at age 3, non-stop headache began at age 8. There is much more agony in our story, but you are probably already experiencing it, so no need to go into detail.

The best piece of advice came from our Lyme Literate Medical Doctor who said us parents are in best position to monitor what helps and what doesn't. Therefore I resolved to figure this out myself. Over 8 hours, every day for many years researching, looking for a solution, getting in touch with top doctors around the world and touching base with those who were healed of their Lyme.

What took so long? I fell into a trap of being too focused on killing Lyme. Thankfully, a breakthrough came. I believe it was divine intervention. A pivot in our strategy to shift focus on feeling better. I decided if Lyme was going to stick around, let's make the best of it.

"My head does not hurt!" she proclaimed in a proud but weakened voice that refocused my attention to the moment.

The impossible became reality!

Amazingly, some symptoms started to dissipate within a week. Able to walk in a couple of days. Yay!
Joint pain took the longest to disappear, almost a year to be resolved.

There was a time when I wanted to run away from all talk about Lyme disease. It was a short season of burnout. But then I remembered all of the other children who are struggling. I hate to see kids suffer. Therefore, I completed training to become a Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner, ready to help others feel better.

I'm looking forward to partnering with you. Let's get your life back. -Jerry
